Solar shed lighting Vs Mains powered shed lighting
To make the comparison fair let’s assume you picked our biggest and most expensive Geo Shed Lighting Kit, the Geo 4 which is currently priced at £250. Let’s also assume you went all out on a 104Ah battery which also costs £250 making £500 in all. Using our picture based instructions you could install this yourself with only basic DIY skills in about 2 hours. And unlike mains powered systems, are 12V solar systems aren’t covered by Part P of the Building Regulations so there’s no need to call an electrician to have the installation certified. Within 2 hours you could have a fully functioning 4 bulb system set up that would deliver the same amount of light as 4 x 40W regular household bulbs. The bulbs we use are in fact 3W LED bulbs (40W equivalent) which are even more efficient the CFL energy saving bulbs that have become popular in recent years. They also last longer with an average lifespan of 30,000 hours (or 20 years if you used them for 4 hours a night every night).

A friend of ours has a shed 50 feet away from his house and he recently obtained a number of quotes to install mains powered lighting. The cheapest quote he got was £620 ex VAT. All of the quotes were based on the fact that he would dig the trench from the house down to the shed himself and make good once the electrician had finished the job. After that he would then have the on-going electricity costs each time he turned the lights on which do not apply to solar!

Why some people use Solar Security Lights as Solar Shed Lights…
Solar Security Lights are a very popular choice for those wanting light inside their shed as well as outside. The advantage of using solar security lights inside your shed is that they are motion activated so no fumbling for a light switch in the dark! The lights featured here will all stay lit until motion stops so you don’t need to remember to turn the light off when you leave the shed (which some of our customers have done in the past). Any light designed to work as a floodlight outside is definitely going to be bright enough to work as a shed light inside! You also have the added bonus of the security element as you will have a higher chance of noticing if anyone ever tries to break into your shed.
